EXSIF is committed to ensuring its customers’ products are shipped safely and efficiently. Periodic inspection and testing of tanks is critical to achieving this goal. EXSIF has established a global network of approved testing facilities. In addition to providing customers with notifications of when inspections and tests are due and where the most convenient facilities are located, EXSIF also keeps customers informed of regulatory changes.

Currently, regulations allow the 2.5-year intermediate inspection and test to be carried out up to three months past the expiry date and does not specify the type of test to be performed beyond this three-month period. Recently, the UN Model regulations were amended to specify that if the 2.5-year intermediate inspection and test is delayed beyond three months of the expiry date, the test must be replaced with a 5-year periodic inspection and test.

The text of the UN Model regulations entered the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code, 2020 Edition (Amendment 40-20) which comes into force on June 1, 2022 and may be applied voluntarily as from January 1, 2021. ADR adopted the same revision, which will become mandatory after June 30, 2021.
